INSTALLATION OF SOFTWARE

These instructions address issues involving the installation of Version 5.0 or later software, and the removal of older versions. If you have previously installed LSS+ (Version 4.05), you must UNINSTALL that version BEFORE installing the new version. 

You can uninstall your old software by selecting the UNINSTALL option under LSS+ INFOBASE program group. This can be found in START MENU > ALL PROGRAMS > LSS+ INFOBASE > Uninstall. Failure to uninstall the old program before installing the latest version will result in the improper removal of files.

The installation of software is straightforward. The program is designed to run on WINDOWS 95, 98, 2000, XP, and Virtual PC for MAC. The program does NOT AUTOMATICALLY RUN. You must locate the PROGRAM GROUP by clicking on MY COMPUTER or WINDOWS EXPLORER and select the CD ROM DRIVE.

All files are contained on the LSS+ (black) disk.  When you install the software, a PROGRAM GROUP (shown above) is created that contains four directories and nine files. During the install process, these are loaded onto your hard drive in a default directory (C:\PROGRAM FILES\LSSPlus\. You may specify any directory path you wish other than the default during setup. Note that the earlier version of this program create a directory named LSS2.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Insert the CD ROM into the drive;
  • Select the CD ROM drive through MY COMPUTER or WINDOWS EXPLORER;
  • Click on SETUP icon (highlighted in above example, Setup.exe);
  • A validating LSS+ logo will appear, together with install options;

  • Select the desired option: install only the viewer, or the viewer and Infobase. The viewer files only require about 30 MBytes. The Infobase requires almost 700 MBytes of hard drive space.

  • Progress through the required steps, and select the desired path for the files. If you wish to change the location of files, choose BROWSE and select the drive and directory.

 

  • When you have completed all required steps, a screen will appear indicating you are ready to proceed.

  • A progress report will display files as they are installed.

  • A screen will indicate that you have successfully completed the installation. Click on FINISH.

  • Once installation has been completed, you will be linked to the On-line tutorial, if your Internet connection is available. If not, you may skip this step and close the install program.

  • Once the FOLIO VIEWS files are installed, you must open the Infobase through the icon on the desktop, or through the program group that is created as part of the START MENU, ALL PROGRAMS. Shown is the START menu from XP below.

 

  • Select LSS+ Infobase, then LSS+ to open the program. The program will then launch. Depending upon whether you copied the LSS+ files to your hard drive, you will be required to have the CD in the disk drive. Access will take longer if you run the program from the CD ROM, rather than your hard disk.

UPGRADE FROM VERSION 5.0 to 5.1

A security bug has been found in Version 5.0, released in July, 2004. The LSSPLUS.NFO file will be updated. When you receive Version 5.1, simply copy the LSSPLUS.NFO file to C:\PROGRAM FILES\LSSPLUS\. This will overwrite the original file with the updated version, and should correct the problem.
