REGISTERING YOUR COPY OF LSS+ AND OBTAINING AN UNLOCK CODE

NOTE: Due to the nature of the information contained on LSS+, you may only obtain an unlock code from the author. Your vendor is not able to supply this code. You may contact the author at unlock@security.org, or mwtobias@Security.org.

This information is applicable if you have obtained a PREVIEW copy of LSS+ (Version 4.05), have purchased a copy of LSS+ from a vendor other than Security.org, or wish to purchase a copy of LSS+. Your options are as follows:

  • IF YOU HAVE A PREVIEW COPY OF LSS+ (Version 4.05): Complete the purchase and registration form at Security.org and supply the challenge key. These instructions do not apply to Preview Version 5.0;
  • IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED A COPY OF LSS+ FROM ANOTHER VENDOR Version 5.0 or later: Complete the registration form at Security.org and supply the challenge key;
  • IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED A COPY FROM SECURITY.ORG Version 5.0 or later: Go to Security.org, access your registration form with your transaction number that was generated at the time you placed your order, then enter the challenge key that is generated by LSS+ after installation on the form and resubmit;
  • IF YOU WISH TO PURCHASE A COPY FROM SECURITY.ORG: Complete the purchase and registration form, obtain your product, install the product, and enter the challenge key on your registration form after supplying the transaction number to view your original registration. A response key will be sent back to you via e-mail;
  • IF YOU WISH TO PURCHASE A COPY FROM MBA OR OTHER VENDOR: Contact your vendor, then fill out the registration form on Security.org, together with the challenge key;
  • IF YOU WISH TO REGISTER YOUR SINGLE COPY ON MORE THAN ONE COMPUTER: You must contact the author. Normally, you will only be allowed to load the program on one computer, unless you receive a waiver, or a network license. Likewise, if you encounter an error during the challenge-response process, you must contact the author and explain the circumstances;
  • IF YOU WISH TO PURCHASE MORE THAN ONE COPY FOR YOURSELF OR YOUR AGENCY:  you must call your vendor or the author. However, if you fill out a separate purchase and registration form for each copy, then the transaction can be completed by e-mail.

If you have a Version 4.5 PREVIEW copy of LSS+, it will be valid for three days from date of installation. You must then purchase your copy and register it. If you have already purchased a copy of LSS+, then the registration procedure is the same. If you wish to purchase a copy of LSS+, you may do so from Security.org  or other vendors. If you have a Version 5.xx PREVIEW COPY of LSS+, you must obtain an unlock code by registering, even though this is only a preview copy.

The process that you must follow to obtain LSS+ and an unlock code requires that you:

  • Determine the security level for which you qualify;
  • Purchase a copy of LSS+ from Security.org or a designated vendor, based upon the security level (PUBLIC, LOCKSMITH, GOVERNMENT) for which you qualify. You may purchase and register your copy from Security.org. If you buy your copy from MBA, LOCKMASTERS, ALOA, HL FLAKE, PETERSON MFG, DOYLE, or another vendor, you must register the copy and obtain an unlock code in one process, or you may contact the author for an unlock code after completing the registration process.

In order to utilize your copy of LSS+ after your purchase, you must obtain an UNLOCK CODE for the desired security level.  There are two ways to obtain an unlock code: by e-mail during the registration process and by phone. The procedure to follow for each method is detailed below. It is preferred that you obtain your unlock code by e-mail as part of the registration process.

The unlock code is a two step challenge-response procedure which requires that you load the LSS+ software on your computer, then generate a unique 25 byte key that must be provided to the author as part of your registration form, or by phone. This key is created by the LSS+ program when installed on your computer. It is generated through the "Receive telephone update" program group.

PLEASE NOTE: If you obtain an unlock code by e-mail, there are certain special requirements that you MUST follow, which are summarized described below. 

  • You must go to UPGRADE LICENSE BY PHONE menu after loading your copy of LSS+. There are a total of four program groups within LSS+ INFOBASE in the START MENU. Telephone Update is the bottom group after you click LSS+ INFOBASE from START>ALL PROGRAMS;
  • Generate a challenge key, based upon the type of license you have purchased (PUBLIC, LOCKSMITH, GOVERNMENT);
  • Enter that key into the REGISTRATION FORM under the LSS+CD icon. You must fill in this form in order to receive updates. The challenge key is pasted into the form, where indicated.  NOTE:  After choosing the desired license and generating a challenge key,  you MUST LEAVE THE PROGRAM OPEN until you receive an unlock code from the author. If you terminate the program prior to receiving this code, the resulting unlock code will not work, and you will be required to repeat the process. Unless you can provide evidence to support your request for a new code, one will not be provided without charge;
  • Once you receive the unlock code by return e-mail, you must go back into the LICENSE UPDATE program and paste the code into the blank window. Click NEXT and the license should show ENABLED with the expiration date set for two years.  You can close the license program, and launch LSS+.

TO OBTAIN AN UNLOCK CODE BY E-MAIL: DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS

  • Install the LSS+ software on your computer, as described in the software installation instructions found in the tutorial;
  • Go to the UPGRADE LICENSE BY PHONE menu. This is found in the LSS+ INFOBASE group. Shown below is the START menu for Windows XP, and the programs that are available;

  • Choose the license you desire to purchase. In the example below, the GOVERNMENT license is highlighted. Each license allows access to different security levels. If you have purchased a LOCKSMITH or GOVERNMENT license, you will be required to provide certain identification information during the registration process. To select the desired license, single left click to highlight it. DO NOT DOUBLE-CLICK unless you wish to view license properties.

  • You may double-click on the desired license to view the access rights. If you require a modification of these rights, then you must contact the author and advise why you need a variance from the standard license. This includes requests for network licenses or use on multiple PCs. Once you have loaded the program and received a valid license, you can determine which license you have by clicking on each of the available licenses, then selecting STATUS. In the screen below, GOVERNMENT license is selected, together with the access rights.

  • Click on LICENSE and RECEIVE TELEPHONE UPDATE at the top of the window, or RIGHT CLICK on the desired license, then left click on RECEIVE TELEPHONE UPDATE . The desired license will be displayed.  In the example, GOVERNMENT is shown. WARNING: you must select the license that you have actually purchased. If you attempt to register a different license than that purchased, your registration will fail.

  • Click NEXT to obtain the challenge key (shown below) that is generated by your computer. This key must be furnished to the author in order to receive the unlock code. You can COPY this key by highlighting it and entering CTRL-C. This code can then be PASTED onto the appropriate registration form and sent to the author. Remember: the challenge-response program must be left OPEN in order to function properly when you receive the key from the author.

  • This 25 byte code will be e-mailed to the author  as part of your registration form. If you have a special request, please include it in the comments area of the registration form. YOU MUST SUPPLY your PRODUCT SERIAL NUMBER and INVOICE NUMBER when you send your request for an unlock code. If you have not registered prior to this request, it will not be processed. The product serial number and invoice number must be available to the author prior to issuing you an unlock code;
  • Your unlock code will be e-mailed to you. COPY the 25 byte code that you receive from the author by highlighting it and press CTRL-C. Then PASTE the code into the space provided. It should appear in the box. Make sure there are no extra spaces between letters. Then press NEXT.  If the code is correct, the challenge-response process is complete. The system will report that you have an enabled license. If not, you must enter a proper code for your program to work. You may also manually enter the code that you receive from the author. When you paste the code into the blank windows, be certain that there are no extra spaces that have been copied.

If you have entered in an incorrect response, the following prompt will be displayed.

TO RECEIVE AN UNLOCK CODE BY PHONE:

Follow the steps outlined above. Rather than contacting the author by e-mail,  you may call by phone at the number on your LSS+ disk. If you are outside of the United States, you may call 1.605.334.1155. Please remember that our office is GMT-6.

NOTE REGARDING PHONETIC TRANSLATION OF LETTERS AND NUMBERS: You may notice that some of the translations for letters and numbers appear to be inaccurate, such as TREE for 3, and FIFE for 5. These follow the international aircraft designated phonetic alphabet, and in fact are correct.  Therefore, when you are reading the key to the author, please be sure to verify the number or letter against the sound. Example: the number three is shown as "TREE." That could be mistaken for "T" rather than "3."
