Nest Secure Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deals
- No longer sold by Nest
- Google Home automation features
- A range of no-contract plans
Black Friday doesn’t have to mean being trampled at the mall. Rather, you can enjoy Black Friday discounts from the comfort of your own home via the Internet. Enter Nest Secure, a security system that has since been removed from Google Nest’s website, although it’s available from some third-party providers. Now, under normal circumstances before it was discontinued, it was priced at $399, and that doesn’t even include optional installation, storage, or monitoring costs. So, how much can you save on Nest Secure on Black Friday? We’re here to tell you all that and more.
Save on Security
We’re still waiting with bated breath for Nest Secure’s 2020 Black Friday discounts, so while we wait, let’s tell you about what they did for us last year. Along with some serious savings on their video doorbell, cameras, and smart thermostats, Nest gave us up to 35 percent off of their smart home devices on Amazon.1 For the Nest Secure system, that means we could’ve gotten it for as little as $259.35, saving around $140! We’re hoping for some similar discounts for Black Friday discounts 2020, if not even better.
Nest Secure Prices
Last time it was available from Nest, the Nest Secure Alarm System, which included the Nest Guard base station, the Nest Detect sensors for doors or windows and a Nest tag for arming and disarming the system, was priced at $399. However, if that was too steep, even with a Black Friday discount, you could pay $16.62 a month for two years with zero percent financing from the Google Store.
Not done with Nest? Here’s the pricing for their other products, which range from security cameras to smart thermostats. As you can see, Nest isn’t the cheapest smart home brand around, but it’s a leader in terms of what its products can do. The Nest Learning Thermostat, for example, learns people’s heating and cooling preferences after a few days, automatically creating a schedule; but that’s a story for another day.

Professional vs. DIY Installation Costs
One optional cost is installation. While we installed Nest Secure ourselves in our Nest Secure review, professional installation was available from Handy starting at $119. Although they’re a third party, all of Handy’s professionals are pre-screened, and with the Handy Happiness Guarantee,2 you shouldn’t have any issues with faulty service. However, if you’d rather have the $119 back in your pocket, Nest Secure was super easy to install, and not just for us home security experts.
FYI: Although Google Nest offers professional installation of Nest Secure through Handy, we don’t think it’s necessary, as you can install the system yourself for free without much difficulty or time.
There’s also the question of storage, given you buy some Nest cameras to go along with the Nest Secure system, which we recommend. Fortunately, Nest has seriously lowered its storage prices; now, they’re reasonable, so you can buy 30 days of cloud storage for either $6 a month or $60 a year, or 60 days for $12 a month or $120 a year.

Tip: To save either $12 or $24, buy a yearly Nest Aware plan as opposed to a monthly plan.
Professional Monitoring vs. Self-Monitoring Costs
Another optional cost when Nest Secure was available was for 24/7 professional monitoring, which means that instead of being fully responsible for your home security system, you’d have a team of people on call, 24/7, to respond to any alerts you get when your system is armed. Now, Nest actually outsourced its professional monitoring to Brinks Home Security, and it was a bit high at a minimum of nearly $20 a month. If you want to learn more about the professional monitoring you’d be getting with Nest Secure, read our Brinks review.

Nest has been in business for exactly a decade. Before Google bought it in 2014 for a whopping $3.2 billion,3 eventually changing its name to Google Nest, the company was called Nest Labs, and started with the Nest Learning Thermostat in 2011. By 2013, they had developed the Nest Protect smoke and CO detector and after the company acquired Dropcam the next year, they came out with the Nest cameras.4 Two years later, Nest Secure was born, and two years after that in 2019, Google integrated Nest Secure with their voice assistant, Google Assistant. While this raised privacy concerns for some, as Google had never disclosed the microphone in the Nest Guard that enabled Google Assistant to speak in the first place, Nest remains an incredibly popular name in smart home security, although they took Nest Secure off the market in 2020.
Want More?: Aside from the Nest Secure security system, Nest also makes indoor and outdoor security cameras, smart thermostats, a Wi-Fi router, a smart lock, a video doorbell, and a smoke and CO detector.
On Thanksgiving, we tell our friends and family what we’re thankful for, and this year, that’ll include Nest Secure discounts. So get ready to put money back in your pocket this Black Friday.
