Norton 360 Deluxe vs. Premium

Norton 360 Deluxe vs. Premium at a Glance

Cost Per Device: Which Plan Actually Costs Less?

Looking at sticker price alone makes Deluxe look cheaper, but when we ran the numbers, Premium actually costs less per device once you divide it out. Deluxe’s $49.99 first-year price works out to about $10 per device across its five-device limit. Premium’s $59.99 spreads across 10 devices, which comes out to about $6 per device. The same math holds at renewal: Deluxe runs about $25 per device per year, while Premium runs closer to $15.

In our view, that doesn’t automatically make Premium the better deal for everyone. If you only need to cover two or three devices, you’re paying for capacity you won’t use no matter how good the per-device math looks. But if you’re already using all five of Deluxe’s device slots, we’d point you toward Premium. You have no room left to add a device without upgrading anyway, and you’d use enough of Premium’s 10 slots to actually realize its lower per-device cost. Norton 360 Deluxe: What You Get

Norton 360 Deluxe covers up to five PCs, Macs, phones, and tablets for $49.99 in the first year (renews at $124.99 per year). That’s enough for most individuals and smaller households, since it typically covers a laptop, a phone or two, and a tablet without hitting the limit.

Along with device protection, Deluxe includes a VPN for up to five devices, 50 GB of cloud backup, Dark Web Monitoring, Privacy Monitor, Parental Control, and Norton’s Scam Protection suite. Deluxe is the plan Norton markets most heavily, and it’s the one offered with a free trial on Norton’s site.

Norton 360 Premium: What You Get

Norton 360 Premium covers up to 10 PCs, Macs, phones, and tablets for $59.99 in the first year (renews at $149.99 per year), with a VPN that scales up to the same 10-device limit. Cloud backup doubles to 100 GB. Everything else, from Scam Protection to Privacy Monitor to Parental Control, matches Deluxe feature for feature.

Premium is built for larger households, families with several kids’ devices to manage, or anyone who wants noticeably more cloud storage without stepping up to a Norton 360 with LifeLock plan (which adds identity theft protection on top, at a higher price). Given that it costs only $10 to $20 more than Deluxe’s first-year and renewal plans, Premium is an easy pick if you fit any of those criteria.

Which Should You Choose? Our Recommendation

Based on how we’ve seen these plans hold up for different households, here’s our guidance:

We recommend Norton 360 Deluxe if:

• You have five or fewer devices to protect
• 50 GB of cloud backup covers what you’d actually back up
• You want Norton’s full feature set at the lowest price that includes it

We recommend Norton 360 Premium if:

• You have more than five devices, or expect to add more soon
• You want extra cloud backup for photos, documents, or work files
• You’re covering a larger family and want everyone under one plan

So what’s next? The number of devices you’ll be covering is the biggest deciding factor, so start counting every phone, laptop, and tablet in your household before deciding. Our best antivirus for multiple devices guide is worth a look too, especially if your household is past Norton 360 Premium’s 10-device threshold.

A few real-world scenarios make this easier to picture:

• A single professional with a laptop, a phone, and a tablet. That’s 3 devices, well within Deluxe’s five-device limit. Premium’s extra room and storage would go mostly unused here, so Deluxe is the more cost-effective pick.
• A couple who each have a phone and a laptop, plus a shared home computer. That’s five devices exactly, which puts you right at Deluxe’s ceiling. It’ll work, but there’s no room to add a tablet or a second computer later without upgrading.
• A family of four with phones, tablets, and a couple of shared computers. That can easily run past five devices once you count everyone’s phone and a shared laptop or two. Premium’s 10-device limit gives you room to grow without needing to juggle which devices are covered.

A Closer Look at What’s Actually Included

Since Deluxe and Premium share every security feature, it’s worth understanding what you’re actually getting rather than just skimming a features list. Here’s what each shared feature does:

• Antivirus, malware, and ransomware protection. Both plans run Norton’s full detection engine, which combines signature-based scanning with cloud-based threat intelligence to catch new threats as they show up, not just the ones already in a database. See our best antivirus for ransomware protection roundup for how Norton stacks up against other brands on this specifically.
• VPN. Both include Norton Secure VPN, which encrypts your internet connection on public Wi-Fi and keeps your browsing private from your network provider. Deluxe covers it on 5 devices, Premium on 10.
• Dark Web Monitoring. Both plans watch for your personal information showing up in data breaches or on dark web marketplaces, and alert you if it does.
• Privacy Monitor. This goes further than Dark Web Monitoring. It searches data broker sites for your personal information and helps you request its removal, cutting down on how many places your data sits exposed in the first place.
• Parental Control. Both plans include content filtering, screen time limits, and location tracking for kids’ devices. It works on Windows, iOS, and Android, but not on Mac. If Mac coverage matters more to your household than Parental Control, our best antivirus for Mac roundup covers options built specifically for macOS.
• Scam Protection. This bundles Safe Web (blocks malicious and phishing sites), Safe SMS (flags scam text messages), and Norton Genie, an AI assistant you can hand a suspicious message or link to for a second opinion. You can also run a link through our own link checker if you want a quick second look. Both plans back this with up to $10,000 in scam-loss coverage.
• Deepfake Protection. Both plans can flag AI-generated deepfake videos on platforms like YouTube and Facebook. Automatic detection needs Windows 11 and a reasonably modern PC. Older or lower-spec machines are limited to a manual scan.
• SafeCam. Both plans alert you if an application tries to access your webcam without permission, and can block the attempt. This one’s Windows only.
• Password Manager and Smart Firewall. Both plans include a password manager for storing and generating logins, plus a firewall that watches incoming and outgoing network traffic for anything suspicious.

Bottom Line

Our conclusion is straightforward: Norton 360 Deluxe and Premium are the same product at two different sizes. Deluxe covers five devices with 50 GB of backup for less money, and Premium doubles both numbers for a higher price. In our assessment, there’s no feature gap to weigh here, no trade-off between better protection and a lower cost. It’s purely a question of how many devices you’re protecting and how much backup space you actually need, and we’d size your pick accordingly.
