But knowledge is power, and knowing your printer’s IP address can help you reach a solution faster. There are several different avenues to take when it comes to finding your printer’s IP address, so we’ve created a comprehensive list to save you from frustration.

How to Find Your Printer’s IP Address

In order to resolve technical issues with your printer, you’ll need to know your printer’s IP address. Knowing your printer’s IP address will also help you secure a private connection with your printer and connect it to your Wi-Fi network. Here are the different ways you can find your printer’s IP address, depending on the type of printer and computer you own:

Print a Network Configuration Page

  1. Open your printer’s Control Panel.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Click Wireless Settings.
  4. Print a page called Network Configuration, which will contain your printer’s IP address.

On Windows

  1. Open your computer’s Control Panel.
  2. Open Hardware and Sound.
  3. Open Devices and Printers.
  4. Right-click on Printer and select Properties.
  5. If three tabs pop up, find your IP address in the Web Services tab.
  6. If five tabs pop up, find your IP address in the Ports tab.

On a Router

  1. Make sure you have access rights to your router.
  2. Enter your routers IP address into the address bar of any web browser.
  3. Type your router’s username and password.
  4. Find the DHCP Client Table or Client List.
  5. Open the Client List or DHCP Client Table.
  6. Click on your printer to reveal its IP address.

Using the Command Prompt

  1. Press the Windows key.
  2. Type cmd.
  3. Type netstat -r.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. A list of devices connected to your computer should pop up, including your printer’s IP address.

On MacOS

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Click on Printers & Scanners.
  3. Click on your printer.
  4. Your printer’s IP address should be listed under [citation id=”1″]Location.[/citation]

From an HP Printer

  1. Open the HP Smart app or go to hpsmart.com.
  2. Click Printer Settings.
  3. Click Printer Reports under Tools.
  4. Click Network Configuration.
  5. The printer will print a network configuration page containing information that should include your IP address. It will be located under the IPv4 [citation id=”2″]category.[/citation]

From the CUPS Webpage (Mac Computers)

  1. From a Finder window, open your Applications folder.
  2. Click on the Utilities folder.
  3. Open the Terminal app.
  4. Type cupsctl WebInterface=yes.
  5. Press Enter.
  6. Open Safari.
  7. Copy and paste ‘localhost:631/printers’ into your browser.
  8. You can find your printer’s IP address under the Location [citation id=”3″]section.[/citation]

On a Chromebook

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on Advanced.
  3. Under Printers, select Save the Available Printers.
  4. Under the list of Saved Printers, right-click on your printer.
  5. Click Set Up.
  6. Click Model.
  7. Click Label.
  8. Click Add.
  9. Under Printer Information, you should now be able to see your printer’s IP [citation id=”4″]address.[/citation]

From a Canon Printer

  1. On your printer, find and select Settings and Adjustments.
  2. Click Set or Adjust Menu.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Expand the IP Address Menu.
  5. Select Interface Setup.
  6. Select TCP/IP.
  7. Open the next tab.
  8. Select IPv4 Settings.
  9. A box should pop up with the IP address of your Canon printer. It should start with 192.186.

Fix Connection Issues

Did your printer stop printing suddenly? If you’re experiencing connection issues, knowing how to find your printer’s IP address can allow you to change your IP address from dynamic to static. This means your printer’s IP address won’t change, so your device will always recognize your printer.

How to change your printer’s IP address from a Windows computer:

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Click Devices and Printers.
  3. Select Print Server Properties.
  4. Select the Ports tab in the pop-up menu.
  5. Select Add Port.
  6. Select Standard TCP/IP Port.
  7. Select New Port.
  8. Enter a new IP address and a port name for the desired device.
  9. Click Apply.

How to change your printer’s IP address from a Mac computer:

  1. Navigate to System Settings.
  2. Click on Printers & Scanners.
  3. Click on the > to the right of the printer in question.
  4. Click Options and Supplies.
  5. In the box next to Location, you should be able to change your printer’s IP address.

How to connect a Windows device to your printer:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type Printers in the search bar.
  3. Click on Printers & Scanners.
  4. Choose Add Printer or Scanner.
  5. Select The Printer I Want Isn’t Listed.
  6. Select Add Manually and then Add a Printer Using TCP/IP Address.
  7. Click Next.

  1. Navigate to System Settings.
