What We Like

What We Don't Like

  • Part of Five Eyes: As Windscribe is based in Ontario, Canada, it's possible that your data will be shared with other nations in certain situations.
  • Spotty Netflix connection: I had some difficulty unlocking geo-restricted content from certain countries, and my research shows this is a pervasive problem with Windscribe.
  • Speed on Mac: I was disappointed with Windscribe's upload and ping speeds on my Macbook Air.

Bottom Line

A lot of “free” VPNs offer anemic protections with a lot of strings attached. Not so with Windscribe, the free version of which is nearly as robust as the paid version. If you’re looking to save on your monthly bills, this might be the service for you.
