Nest Cam Indoor Privacy Report
The first generation Indoor Nest Cam has been discontinued by Google. They updated the device with their second-generation line-up of Nest Cams with the Indoor, Wired camera being the follow-up to the first-generation Indoor Nest Cam. This second generation of products still receives firmware updates which really improves its privacy capabilities. However, they still suffer from the same issue of staying partially turned on even when turned off through the Nest mobile app. You can read about our thoughts on the new lineup of Nest Cams in our Nest Cam Reviews and Ratings guide.
But the Nest Cam Indoor’s mediocre privacy rating stems from the fact that it’s one of the older security cameras still in production. Although it’s still on Google Nest’s lineup, it doesn’t receive regular and automatic firmware updates, opening it up to the possibility of getting hacked. What’s even more concerning is that researchers have found that the camera doesn’t completely power down when turned off through its companion mobile app.
